This past weekend was a big one for the Toyota team. They managed to clean up 1st and 2nd place in the LMP1 classification at the 24 hours Le Mans race in France.
With that win, Toyota announced they would be making a street legal version of the winning Toyota TS050 Hybrid race car. It is currently a GR Super Sport concept, but the video below shows they are making steps to getting it into production. I am sure the big win helped on getting everything moving forward faster.
The GR Super Sport will hold the same powerful THS-R Hybrid system that the Toyota TS050 Hybrid LMP1 winning race car was built on. The system runs on a 2.4-liter twin-turbo, direct injection V-6 engine for the rear wheels. There will also be two electric motors for the front wheels. All together, the system pumps out a whopping 1,000 horsepower. The front wheels each have a motor generator unit which charges the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery. The era of the new super car is upon us!
